Over the past 2 years my work has been about the positive impacts nature has on health and well-being and how we can make art works more inclusive.
This art work focuses on the senses. I have found using and isolating the senses makes art more accessible and inclusive. This sensory work directly addresses the lack of provision for d/Deaf, hard of hearing, visually impaired audiences and the Nerodivergent community.
Through volunteering at my local primary school I have worked and interacted with children with autism and one child who communicates through Makaton (sign language). I have seen first hand the positive effects sensory rooms and items have on interactions and inclusion within the world and how it helps with anxiety and emotions. I have chosen to take inspiration from this, as well as the nature aspects I have learned so much about.
My work brings the items made for children such as rattles and lights to be appreciated in a more sophisticated manner for adults on a larger scale and in attractive Structures to the adult viewer. The art is accessible to everyone from every age of every ability, a physical art piece that can be appreciated by everyone.
